What is a unity asset store?

Unity Asset Store (sometimes abbreviated as “UAS”) is a software development asset store for the Unity game engine. It offers high-quality 3D models, textures, music, and other audio-visual assets to Unity developers. As of September 2018, it has over 2 million registered users.

As of July 2019, the Unity Asset Store offers over 230,000 free and premium assets. These assets are available in three categories: Personal Use Assets (PUA), which are free for anyone to use; Proprietary Assets, which are only available to Unity Pro subscribers; and Third Party Assets, which are available to purchase or rent.

In order to make purchases from the Unity Asset Store, users must first create an account. Once an account has been created, users can browse the asset catalogue and make purchases either by directly downloading files or by using the Asset Import feature in Unity. Purchased assets can also be accessed in-game via the Player Settings menu under GameObjects > Custom Components > UAS Assets.

The Unity Asset Store is updated regularly with new content and features. In addition to standalone assets, updates often include new versions of existing assets as well as new collections of assets that can be used together in projects. For example, the latest update includes a collection of sci-fi weapons and accessories that can be used in games such as Halo 5: Guardians and Mass Effect: Andromeda.
